Causes of Urinary Incontinence


Urinary incontinence can be caused by a number of physical conditions. Half of
all cases of incontinence are temporary and can be reversed once the cause is identified and treated. Some causes can be from:

  • Urinary Tract Infections
  • Vaginal Infection
  • Prolapse
  • Fecal Impaction
  • Reaction to Medication
  • Dietary Changes

Incontinence that is not a result of infection, impaction, or reaction to medication could be caused by:

  • Pelvic Muscle Weakness
  • Weakness of the Urethral Sphincter
  • Bladder Muscle Overactivity
  • Prostate Cancer
  • Bladder Muscle Weakness
  • Stroke
  • Decrease in Estrogen
