Mary Gomez, F.N.P.

Mary Gomez, F.N.P. - Bloomington, Indiana Biography

Mary Gomez, a native Californian, relocated to the Bloomington Indiana area in May of 2000. I am married to Reverend Anthony Gomez and have daughters all in the 20’s. We attend Second Baptist Church in Bloomington.

I graduated from the University of California, San Francisco in 1976 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. At that point I began my nursing career as a staff RN on a pediatric surgical unit at the University of California Medical Center. In 1980, I decided to leave hospital nursing and went into Public Health.

I was employed by Contra Costa County Health Department from 1980 until 2000. I gained valuable experience in caring for populations throughout the life span and with persons of various income levels. In 1996, I decided to expand my role and experience in nursing and was accepted into a Masters level Family Nurse Practitioner program at Samuel Merritt College in Oakland California.

I continued to work as a Public Health Nurse and attended the program on a part-time basis. I graduated from the Nurse Practitioner program in 1999. Shortly after graduation I remarried and to my surprise, my husband’s job was transferred to Crane. So here we are in Bloomington, Indiana.

In 2000, I started employment as the Nurse Practitioner at the CHAP Program, (Community Health Access Program). This is a program for uninsured, low income, Monroe County Residents, which assures that residents have access to quality, affordable health care. My experience at CHAP increased my knowledge and expertise in providing acute and chronic health care. It was sad to leave CHAP because the population that was seen at CHAP is very close to my heart. However, in February 2005 I left CHAP and came to Total Healthcare for Women, where I work for Dr.’s Clark Brittain and Mary Mahern. Once again, I am providing primary healthcare for those over the lifespan.

A specialty that I am developing within this office is the Pelvic Floor Muscle Rehabilitation Program. This is a program for those with urinary incontinence. This program has increased the quality of life for those who are affected, as well as those around them.
